Membership Information
 

The road to NJHS membership in the ALL chapter begins with a pre-selection process that begins as early as second semester 6th grade. Early recognition and recommendation for potential NJHS membership begins as early as 5th grade. This early recognition will not count toward the actual NJHS application process, but will honor the students and their parents of their potentials to become future members.

Pre-selection Process

The pre-selection process is intended to give potential members a chance to adjust to the standards and requirements needed for membership. Students who have met the basic requirement for candidacy may submit a pre-selection process form to apply for candidacy. Upon successful selection to candidacy, the student must uphold the requirements for pre-selection as well and reach the requirements for membership application for and within one semester. Application for candidacy may be submitted for unlimited times, except for cases of significant school rules and any criminal laws violations.

Selection Process

Selection to NJHS is a privilege that provides recognition of students achievements in school. This honor, recognized throughout the nation, is both the public recognition of accomplishment and the private commitment to continued excellence on the part of the new member. Membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council in each school. This is not an election, nor is membership automatically conveyed simply because a student has achieved a specific level of academic performance. Other components of the selection process (leadership, service, citizenship, and character) are also significant. I

n order to be considered for membership, a student must successfully pass the pre-selection process and the candidacy period. In addition, the student must submit an application for membership selection and meet the requirements for the application before being considered for membership. Upon successful selection to membership, the students must uphold the requirements for membership as long as they wish to remain an active member of the society. Application for membership may only be submitted repeatedly if the student failed to meet the requirements for membership during previous applications. Membership may not be reapplied upon dismissal from the chapter due to extended failure to uphold academic and behavioral requirements, and significant school rules and any criminal laws violations.
