Rattlesnakes Invade Our School

Devenye Friedenberg

As most of you know, On Monday, October 17th, Jacob Hansen was bitten by a baby diamond-back rattlesnake. This is not the first rattlesnake found at A.L.L; a couple were found two weeks ago. Jacob is all right; he returned to school a few weeks ago. He had to have 16-18 vials* of anti-venom. Jacob was very fortunate that his hand was okay.

Kids, you need to be careful on the playground!!!!!!

As Paul, the reptile teacher, said, if you hear a rattling noise while you are the playground, try to find the snake, then go tell a teacher immediately. If you do get bitten, don’t freak out! And don’t run!! If you do, the blood will flow faster to your vital organs, causing more damage. Instead, have a friend run and get a teacher a fast as he/she can.

Suzette says:

·    Be alert

·    Be careful where you step and put your hands

·    Remember snakes are camouflaged and like to hide in trees, bushes and on cool tile floors like bathrooms!! What if your ball goes behind a bush or a tree? If your ball goes behind a bush or a tree, before going after it ask a teacher!

*"16-18 vials" was an approximation because the exact amount was unknown at the time of my asking.
